Statement from the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce on the Resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Statement on the Government of Alberta's Second Quarter Fiscal Update (1)

January 6, 2025

The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce commends Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for a decade of dedicated service and leadership since his election in 2015. His tenure has guided our nation through periods of both opportunity and challenge, and we thank him for his steadfast commitment to serving Canadians.

As the Liberal Party of Canada—and Canadians as a whole—prepare for a leadership transition, we underscore the critical importance of fostering a competitive and predictable political and regulatory environment. Such stability is essential not only for the success of businesses but also for driving economic growth, creating greater prosperity, and enhancing the quality of life for all Canadians.

We urge all political leaders and parties to prioritize policies that strengthen Canada’s economic competitiveness, attract investment, and build confidence among entrepreneurs and businesses. This includes ensuring Canada’s fiscal framework is both sustainable and competitive with other jurisdictions. A clear and stable framework is vital for businesses to thrive and for Canada to maintain its position as a global economic leader.

The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce is actively developing its federal election platform, a comprehensive document that will outline our members' key priorities for Canada’s federal government. Reflecting the needs and aspirations of our business community, the platform will be shaped through member engagement and will be ready ahead of Parliament's return on March 24, 2025. This positions the Chamber to advocate effectively for the issues that matter most to our members.

We look forward to working with the next leader and all elected officials to build a strong, resilient, and prosperous Canada.
