The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce expresses deep concern over the ongoing Canada Post Strike
The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce expresses deep concern over the ongoing Canada Post strike, which commenced on November 15, 2024, following unsuccessful negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
Postal delivery plays a crucial role in supporting businesses across Canada by facilitating the efficient transportation of goods, documents, and services, enabling commerce and connectivity in urban and remote areas alike. Furthermore, with the holiday season approaching, prolonged disruption to mail and parcel delivery will hinder small and mid-sized businesses, driving up costs, delaying shipments, and frustrating customers.
Canada Post operates in an increasingly competitive industry where reliability is key—businesses and consumers alike may permanently shift to alternative providers, eroding Canada Post’s market share and financial viability. The ripple effects of this strike threaten to strain businesses, harm profitability, and weaken confidence in a vital service provider. We urge both Canada Post and CUPW to prioritize resolution to avoid long-term damage to the business ecosystem.
